Obituary

Acie Wesley Ayers, 84 of Sandstone, passed away Monday June 3, 2019 at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital following a brief illness.

Born January 19, 1935 at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Elva Sr. and Roxie Burdette Ayers.

Mr. Ayers was retired from the signal department for CSX Transportation Corporation in Michigan, and was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department in Holly, MI while living there. After retiring back to his beloved WV, Acie enjoyed hunting and fishing. Being mechanically inclined; he helped neighbors and friends with anything they needed. Acie was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen and also a member of Victory Baptist Church at Beaver, WV.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Acie Wesley Ayers, Jr.; one brother, Elva Ayers, Jr. and two half-brothers, Charles and Vernon Adkins.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Meadows Ayers. Four daughters, Margie Grondin (Paul) of Flint, MI, Sharon Kirt (Ken) of Lennon, MI, Libby Trovillion (Don) of Mayville, MI and Regina Havermale of Northbranch, MI. Two sisters, Libby Ayers of Sandstone and Sulestine Atkinson (Jim) of Charmco, WV. Two step-sons, Andy Williams of Ashville, OH and Fred Williams of Brooks, WV. Five half-brothers, Gary Adkins of Brooks, WV, Warren Adkins of Winchester, VA, and Robert Adkins of Rio Grande, OH, Ferrell Adkins of McLeanville, NC and Steve Adkins of Burlington, NC. Two half-sisters, Wanda Ball of Talcott, WV and Carol Thompson    of Burlington, NC. 21 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday June 8, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the King Cemetery at Sandstone. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
