Obituary

Amanda Jean Garten, 86, of Hinton passed away at the home of her daughter Regina in Cross Lanes, WV on Monday, August 1, 2016following a short illness.

Born at Buck, WV on July 10, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Alva Dayton and Elva Clarice Lowry Wood.

She was a graduate of Forest Hill High School. Attended the Forest Hill United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her visits to the Hinton Senior Citizens Center and was a faithful servant to the Lord, also devoted wife, mother, and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Leonard Garten. Also by one son Charles Rexford Garten, two brothers Elmer and Bernard Wood and one sister Betty Wood Smith

Survivors include two daughters: Thelma Jean Garten of Hinton and Regina Garten VanNoy of Charleston, one Brother Alva D. Wood and wife Stella of Cleveland OH, one sister Ruby Wood Bradley and husband Lowell of Pfafftown, NC, one grandson David Rexford VanNoy of Raleigh, NC, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 A.M. on Wednesday August 3, 2016 at the Huffman Cemetery at Buck, WV, with Pastor Mike McCoy Officiating. Friends may call at the cemetery from 11:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Forest Hill United Methodist Church.
