Andrew Carl Maier Esq., 73, of Hinton W.V. passed away October 26th, 2026.

Born in New Jersey, he was a graduate of Ramapo College and WVU College of Law. Andrew was a lifelong advocate for social justice and environmental protection. He served on the board of the WV Environmental Council and was a regular commentator on WV Public Radio. Andrew was a Clerk at the WV Supreme Court, Assistant Attorney General, Administrative Law Judge, and Public Defender.

Andrew was instrumental in preventing a nuclear waste dump in West Virginia. He organized opposition to massive landfills for out-of-state garbage, and together with Delegate Perry Mann, passed the 30,000 ton per month landfill limit.

A musician and lifelong baseball fan, he loved the Yankees and traveling.

He is survived by his daughters Mary Wood and Andy Maier and his brother Robert Maier.
