Athoel Eugene Lilly, age 89, went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2024 at his home in Marie, WV.

Born on July 11, 1934 in Forest Hill, WV, he was the son of the late Emmett Lilly and Rose Cottle Lilly.

Athoel graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1952.  He worked as an electrician in several states, his last employment being with the Celanese Corporation in Narrows, VA.   Athoel attended New Hope Methodist Church and enjoyed farming and beekeeping in his retirement years.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Swepston Lilly; sisters Avenell Mae Lilly, Louise Allen, Naomi Wood, Christine Lilly, Leota Solacz, and Viola Buckland; brothers Ralph Lilly, Edgar Lilly, John Lilly, and Roland "Buster" Lilly.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons Wayne Lilly (Karen) of White Pine, TN and David Lilly (Katie) of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Sarah Walker (Ivan) and Anna Walker (Brad); great grandchildren Ashley Dennis, Jaxon Dennis, and Lincoln Walker.

Funeral services will be held at the New Hope United Methodist Church, Marie, WV at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024 with Pastor Mike Tabor officiating.  Visitation will be at the church 12:30 pm to the start of the service.  Burial will follow at New Hope United Methodist Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Cemetery Fund, 216 Shreve Road, Ballard, WV 24918.
