Basil F. Bragg 87 departed this world on November 11, 2020 following a short illness.

He leaves behind his children Marilyn Bragg Garten, Benjamin, David, Calvin (Tammy) and Jerry Bragg, Ann (Dave) Jackson, Wendy Bragg and Josie (Jeremy) Reed, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren, a sister Hettie Graham and a host of nieces and nephews.  He was married to Ruby Belle Bragg for 44 years until her death.  He was a devoted husband and Father and cared for his wife for many years as she battled kidney failure.

Born April 24th, 1933 on Brooks Mountain in Brooks West Virginia to Ada Mae and Joseph Green Bragg he was sixth of eight children born on that mountain.  He met the love of his life just a little way down the mountain Ruby Bragg and married her and started his family.  He worked cutting timber; tearing down old homes and putting his back and hands to work at any honest work to raise his children.

In 1993 using salvaged wood and other building materials he and his children built by hand a house on the old homestead that will stand forever.  He could do anything he put his mind to doing and loved it.  The house he built was the site of all the family gatherings and nothing delighted him more that to be surrounded by his family and friends.  He never met a stranger and was loved by all.

After the loss of his wife he met Mary Adkins and she was his companion for 20 years until her death.  Together they hosted a family reunion at her home and had 24 people staying there.   He was the chief cook and bottle washer and loved nothing more than cooking up a great meal of fried chicken and dumplings for company.

After the death of Mary, Basil signed himself into the nursing home in Summers County and quickly became a great favorite there as well.  He was voted King at the Valentines party and was happy to be surrounded by so many friends.  His daughter Marilyn, a nurse quit her job at a hospital in Beckley and went to work there at the nursing home so she could be close to her Dad and he loved it.

He was proud of his life; the hardships and the happiness and once said, "I think a man should enjoy living and I think a man should halfway enjoy dying."   His death has reduced us all to a bunch of children playing on a dusty West Virginia road basking in his love and happiness at just seeing us happy.

He has joined the host of relatives and loved ones who have gone on before him and left the ones that remain a sure and clear path to home.  There is great rejoicing in Heaven today.

Rest in peace High on that mountain darling Father, uncle and brother. The family would like to thank, Dr. Day, Alisa Lane and the staff at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation for the wonderful care they provided.
