Bernard P. "Duke" Cox went to his heavenly home on May 11, 2017 at Summers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Hilldale.
Born April 7, 1960 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Howard R. and Pansy L. Hammonds Cox.
Duke worked several years at Bridge Street Ashland and later retired from the custodial department at the Summers County Courthouse and Memorial Building. His battle with RA forced him to retire early.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Cox and Roger Cox and a nephew, Roger "Punkin" Cox, Jr.
Duke is survived by two sons, Joshua Cox of Dunedin, FL and Zachary Cox of Hinton. One daughter, Katrina Deaver of Charleston. Two brothers, James Cox and Kenneth Cox, both of Hinton. Three sisters, Patricia Meador and husband Donald, Lola Cox and Alice Adkins, all of Hinton. A sister-in-law, Delores Cox and her son, Michael. Special nephew, Bobby Lee Richmond, a niece, Audrey Richmond, a special great nephew, Evan Meador. Several other nephews and nieces also survive that Duke truly loved.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stan Day, Shelda and the nurses and aides that cared for Duke during his illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 16, 2017 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Per Duke's request, cremation will follow the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.
