Bernard Lee Thompson, 90 of Talcott, died at 9:00 p.m. Saturday June 16, 2018 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.
Born July 10, 1927 at Talcott, he was the son of the late Oris D. and Gladys Mary Knapp Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was a retired truck driver for Chemical Leaman Truck Lines in Charleston, WV and a former driver for Green Acres Dairy at Lowell. He enjoyed mechanic work, gardening and antique car shows. He also participated in many festivals in southern West Virginia as "Uncle Jake" of the "Travelin' Hillbillies" driving his antique truck. He attended Clayton Baptist Church and had lived most of his life in Summers County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Beatrice Thomas Thompson. Also preceded by one brother, O.D. "Buck" Thompson and two great grandchildren, David Matthew Jones and Haley Faith Jones.
Survivors include one son, Robert Lee Thompson of Upper Falls, WV; one daughter, Cheryl Jones & husband David of Pence Springs; two brothers, Leonard F. Thompson of St. Albans, WV and L.W. "Buster" Thompson & wife Barbara of Hilldale; two grandchildren, David Lee Jones of Clayton and Williams Gary Jones of Pence Springs; two great grandchildren, Lauren Grace and Colten Lucas Jones; sister-in-law, Nancy Thompson of Union; special cousins, Gene and Bill Wallace of Ohio; special friend, John Kessler of Lowell.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday June 20, 2018 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Grant Pettit and Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Church Cemetery near Alderson. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
