Obituary

Betty Jean Edwards Spangler Ellison is now resting with our Lord Jesus Christ since her passing from this earth on Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the age of 92.

She was born on November 13, 1933 at her childhood home on Tallery Mountain (True Road) of Pipestem West Virginia to her parents, the late Harden Littleton Edwards and Stella Ruth Canterbury Edwards. She was the 12th of 13 children. She loved to reminisce of her memories with her family in days when communication was face-to-face and family and friends were always together.

Her memories of joyful services with many voices worshipping the Lord in song at James Chapel Church on True Road were some of her greatest. Betty began her life with her husband, Woodrow Spangler as a homemaker. She eventually began to work outside the home at Maiden Form Corporation in Princeton, followed by Hinton Hospital, Pipestem State Park, and eventually retiring as clerk of the town of Athens, WV.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, her first husband, Woodrow Wilson Spangler, her son, Timmy Spangler, her daughter, Deborah, Spangler Triplett, her second husband, Herschel Ellison, her grandson, Woodrow Spangler, and her daughter-in-law Dreama Abshire Spangler.

Betty was truly a strong matriarch of her family who she dearly loved and devoted her heart too. It was most important to her that all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren fear the Lord and serve him.

Those left to cherish Betty‘s memories include her sister, Stella Falvo of True, WV, her grandson, Jacob Spangler (Carrie) of True, WV, her granddaughter, Jessica Rodes, (Joe) of True, WV, grandson Jeremiah Triplett (Amy) of Portsmouth, Ohio, grandson, Tom Triplett (Breanna) of Albany, Ohio, 6 great-grandchildren; Hallie and Ethan Rodes, Tommy, Dylan, Ellie and Nora Triplett and many special nieces and nephews. (Too many to name)

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday August 14th, 2026 at James Chapel Church at True, WV with Pastors Randy Sargent and Daniel Toler officiating. Burial will follow in the Spangler Cemetery at True, WV. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.

Pallbearers will be; Jeremiah Triplett, Jacob Spangler, Tom Triplett, Ethan Rodes, Tommy Triplett and Dylan Triplett.
