Billy Darrell Hartwell, Sr., 73 of Zion Mountain, Summers County, died at 2:19 p.m. Saturday December 10, 2016 at his home following a sudden illness.
Born June 22, 1943 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Silas Kenton and Dora Irene Hodge Hartwell.
Mr. Hartwell was a former employee of the West Virginia Division of Highways. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid hunter and also enjoyed gunsmithing. He was a lifelong resident of Summers County.
He was preceded in death by a great grandson, Logan Hartwell; three brothers, Tom, David and Jim Hartwell; four sisters, Lois Cook, Hilda Creasy, Ruth Angell and Barbara Hartwell.
Survivors include his loving wife, Judith Harvey Hartwell; four sons, Dale Mays & wife Linda of Jumping Branch, Gene Yancey & wife Lynette of Columbus, OH, Billy D. Hartwell, Jr. & companion Kay of Blacksburg, VA and Douglas Hartwell & wife Ruth of True. Four daughters, Drema Martin & husband Jody of Florida, Judy Conner & husband Ricky of Big Creek, Rhonda Taylor & husband Anthony of Hinton and Brenda Meadows & husband Patrick of Hinton. One step-son, Andrew Morgan of Morning View, WV. Six brothers, S.K. "Bud" Hartwell of Beallsville, OH, Roger Hartwell & wife Bernice of Hinton, Ralph Hartwell & wife Judy of Zion Mountain, Dan Hartwell & wife Valerie of Maryland, Gary Hartwell & wife Judy of Wayside and Ronnie Hartwell of Charlotte, NC. One sister, Betty Lamb & husband Donzie of Princeton, WV. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday December 14, 2016 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Red Bennett and Sonny Angell officiating. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery on Zion Mountain near Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
