We mournfully announce the unexpected passing of Billy Darrell Hartwell Jr. (Tater), 53, of Zion Mountain, Hinton, WV. Tater passed away in the comforts of his own home on January 12, 2022.

Tater took his first breath on September 21, 1968 and was a force to be reckoned with from the get go. He had a rambunctious childhood that carried well on into his adulthood where he eventually settled down to enjoy a quiet life filling his days talking to and spending time with family. He was a former truck driver and was an avid outdoorsman. Tater especially enjoyed gardening and doing mechanic work. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his father Billy Hartwell and mother Elizabeth "Libby" Hartwell, Niece Autumn Ward, and great nephew Logan Hartwell. He is survived by many loving individuals to include his daughter, Devon Ransbottom (Dennis) of Fort Gay, WV, a granddaughter Aubrey Ransbottom of Fort Gay, WV. Brothers Dale Mays (Linda) of Nimitz, WV, Gene Yancey (Lynette) of Alexandria, OH, Doug Hartwell (Ruth) of Hinton, WV. Sisters Drema Martin of Lakewood Ranch,  FL, Judy Conner (Ricky) of Hinton, WV, Rhonda Taylor (Anthony) of Hinton, WV and many nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces that he shared special bonds with.

Services will be held at Pivont Funeral Home on Saturday January 15, 2022 starting at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Sonny Angell officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward-Taylor Cemetery at Upland. Friends may call from 11: 00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
