Carl Ronnie Stennett, 79 of Hinton, passed away suddenly on Sunday April 5, 2020 at his home.
Born September 10, 1940 in Raleigh County, he was the son of the late Carl Wallingford and Daphna Nell Shifflette Stennett.
Ronnie was a 1958 graduate of Hinton High School and played football at Concord College and Virginia Tech and Basketball for Beckley College. He received a BS from Bluefield State College and MS from Marshall University. He retired as a regional manager for AFLAC Insurance Company. Ronnie was the former head athletic trainer for Hinton High School, Concord College, WVU Tech and also the Roanoke Rush football team. He was a charter member of the Bobcat Hall of Fame, which recognizes athletic excellence for alumni of Hinton High School and Summers County High School and was also inducted into the WV Sports Legends Hall of Fame.
He was an avid hunter and golfer and especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Ronnie also enjoyed his morning visits with special friends at McDonald's in Hinton. Ron was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinton and the Emmaus Bible Class at the church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam Era as an M.P.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Mary Ellen Harris and Reginald.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Ida Bolling Stennett; three sons, Scott Stennett of Hinton, Chris Stennett and wife Erin of Jumping Branch and Pat Stennett and wife Erin of Peterstown; one brother, Tom Stennett of Nimitz; five grandchildren, Nathan, Quincie and Averie Stennett, Tyler Gore and Olivia Tickle also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 8, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Hinton with Pastors Ronald Cobb and Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Church Cemetery at Forest Hill. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Due to the current COVID19 situation, CDC guidelines for social distancing will be followed for the safety and security of the family and public.
Pallbearers will be; Joe Blankenship, Stan Duncan, Greg Rogers, Jason Gore, Mike Miller and John David O'Neal. Honorary pallbearers will be, Steve Meadows, Bill Hughes, Pat Jordan, Roy Cox and men of First Baptist Church of Hinton.
