On Saturday May 20 th , 2017, Cecil Clyde Cochran, age 101, a former resident of Summers County, West Virginia passed away at his home in Roanoke, VA surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 18, 1915 at Jumping Branch, a son of the late Michael Alexander and Ora Dell Simmons Cochran.
On September 13, 1939, he married Lura Mae Wills who preceded him in death on August 8, 1972. They are survived by one son, Cecil Delane Cochran (Kay) of Roanoke, VA, two daughters, Christine Cochran Daniels Wrinkle of Columbus, OH and Ramona Cochran Pack (James) of Beverly, WV. An infant daughter, Alta Lorene Cochran, died August 22, 1941. Left also to cherish his memory is eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren. Also surviving Cecil is a brother, Hubert Cochran of Daniels, WV. He was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Cochran Wills, brother, Ned Preston Cochran, great grandson, Brennan Isiah Pack and two sons-in-law, Willis Daniels and Virgil Wrinkle.
Cecil graduated from Hinton High School and attended Beckley College. He worked for West Virginia State Road Commission as a bookkeeper at Bellepoint and then as a caretaker for Union Carbide at Camp Brookside, Brooks, WV. He was also employed by Summers County Board of Education as a school bus driver and received Bus Driver of the Year in 1966-1967. Being an avid sportsman and conservationist, he was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the National Rifle Association. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
He was a gentle man who lived for others rather than himself and taught important life lessons by example.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 24, 2017 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow in the Cochran Cemetery at Jumping Branch. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
