Obituary

Charles H. (Monk) Woodrum, 86, of Hinton, WV, passed away Wednesday, May 20, after a long illness.

Monk was born in Hinton on May 7, 1935, to Hayes and Carrie Shirey Woodrum, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Donald and his sister, Phyllis Cales.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Gardner Woodrum; his daughter, Teresa Lyn and husband David Lane of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his beloved grandson, Chad, of Chicago, Illinois.  He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Becky Scott, Cathy Drewry, Kristen Dodd, Jim Woodrum, Mark Woodrum, and Evan Williams.  His special sister-in-law Anne Williams and husband Ralph and special friend Glenn Vallandingham and wife Brenda are also left to cherish his memory.

He joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Hinton High School. The first in his family to graduate from college, Monk was a proud West Virginia University graduate and worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor until an injury forced him to retire in 1998. He enjoyed WVU sports, football, walking, and sitting on his porch watching the birds and the river.

A private service will be held at Pivont Funeral Home with Pastor Robbie Merritt. COVID guidelines will be observed. Face masks are requested, and there will be limited seating.
