Clyde
Grimmett
Dec 13, 1933 — Apr 28, 2016
James Clyde Grimmett, 82 of Upland, died at 9:05 p.m. Thursday April 28, 2016 at Main Street Care in Hinton following a long illness.
Born December 13, 1933 at Rupert, he was the son of the late Clarence Grimmett and Mabel O'Bryan West.
Mr. Grimmett retired after 19 years as a truck driver for R.T. Rogers Oil Company. He previously worked for Smith Transportation and as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a well-known figure in Summers County. During his life, he served in several public servant roles - as a County Commissioner for ten years, a member of the Board of Education for seven years, and a deputy sheriff for four years. He was dedicated to improving the community and ensuring that all citizens had an opportunity to succeed.
In his private life, Mr. Grimmett enjoyed all types of social gatherings. He was very outgoing and loved meeting people and talking politics. He also liked doing a little bit of "trading" and would often come home driving a different car than he left in, towing along a little "piece of boot" that he'd gotten thrown into the deal. (Sometimes these trades were a source of consternation for wife Gloria.) Mr. Grimmett also enjoyed farming and spending time with his extensive family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents Roscoe and Annie O'Bryan who raised him as a child, sister Ina Grimmett, brother-in-law Fred Cornell, and brother-in-law Ralph Brown.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Gloria B. Richmond Grimmett. One son, David Grimmett and wife Jennifer of Martinsburg, WV; two daughters, Donna Miller and husband Nathan of Johnson City, TN and Teresa Mann and husband Jim of Hinton; one sister, Alverta "Jerry" Cornell of Radford, VA; one half sister, Edna Brown of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Chris Bragg and husband DeWayne Lawrence, Michelle Bragg Comer and husband Robbie, Amy Bragg Crawford, Josh Lee and Baileigh Reed-Grimmett; two step-grandchildren Josh Mann and children Lucas and Sadie, and Jamie Mann and wife Merenda Crotts; two great grandchildren, Candace Crawford and Leah Comer; three step-great grandchildren Lindsey Lawrence, Katie Lawrence, and Hailey Lawrence; nephew Paul Brown and family; and niece Sheryl Whitaker and family. He also leaves his honorary family at Main Street Care who loved him dearly and cared for him exceptionally.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday May 1, 2016 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Delmas Wolfe and special speaker Mike Brandon officiating.
