Obituary

Curtis Donald Gore Sr. sadly departed his loving family on August 10, 2024, at the age of 89. Curtis was born in Talcott, WV to Robert "Bob" D and Dora A. Gore on January 25, 1935.

Curtis attended Lincoln High School in Hinton, WV. He married Peggy J. Harris and settled to raise his family in Winston- Salem, N.C. Curtis had an infectious smile, a jovial attitude and never met a stranger. He was caring, kind, and generous towards everyone he encountered. He loved music, and could often be seen playing his harmonica, listening to or recording gospel or country music. Curtis loved to entertain people by singing every chance he got. He loved singing so much; he had several karaoke machines he would use to entertain guest and passersby. His greatest love of all was his family especially his grand and great grandchildren that he often spoke of and was ready to share a story involving them. Curtis leaves behind a legacy of generosity, strength, resiliency and kindness that allowed those who first met him to feel as if they had known him most of their life. He will be greatly missed and knowing he is singing in heaven brings comfort.

Curtis is survived by his sons Curtis D. Gore Jr. of Danville, VA, Michael E. Gore (Tabitha) of Charlottesville, VA., daughter Mary E. Banner (Raymond) of Winston- Salem, N.C., and former wife Peggy J. Gore of Danville, VA. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Joyce Mann of Talcott, WV and brothers Gerald and Roger Gore of Springfield, MA, Ronald Gore of Talcott, WV, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents Robert "Bob" and Dora A. Gore, Sons Clifton D. and Charles D. Gore, grandsons Brandon A. and Stephon L. Gore, brothers Maurice and Rudolph "Rudy" Gore, sisters Carolyn Smith and Mary Ann Wynes.
