Cynthia (Cindy) Gaye Vaughn, 67 of Nimitz, WV passed away Friday November 15, 2024 at Summers A.R.H. Hospital in Hinton.

Cindy was born on December 1, 1956 in Newfoundland, Canada, a daughter of the late Richard C. and Virginia Fix Vaughn. Her early life was filled with years of military travel from far-flung bases such as Ernest Harmon Air Force Base in Newfoundland to California and Nebraska, before settling in Hinton, WV in 1966.

Those base relocations were completed by cross-country trips with her parents and five sisters in a wood-paneled station wagon, which stopped every night to pitch a tent in a national or state park somewhere across the United States. The drill included gathering firewood, changing diapers, preparing dinner on the grill and snuggling down in sleeping bags in preparation for the early morning departure the next day.

Cindy graduated from Hinton High School in 1974 and immediately began her career, which spanned 48 years of employment with Bluestone State Park, a state park in Summers County, WV and Pipestem State Park in Pipestem, WV. Cindy retired in 2022, but continued to work as a sales representative for Avon throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Virginia Fix Vaughn; sister, Teri Clark; nephews, Bret Huffman and Jason Adkins. She was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, William and Cora Fix; paternal grandparents, Gideon and Rosa Vaughn.

Cindy is survived by her son, Colin Vaughn of Beckley, WV; four sisters, Rebecca Huffman (L.J.) of St. Augustine, FL, Catherine Coleman of Roanoke, VA, Andria Adkins of Forest Hill, WV and Tamara Nutter (Ray) of St. Augustine, FL; a multitude of other family members, including Colin's partner, Lindsey Adkins also survive.

Cindy was an avid player of word games such as crossword puzzles, Spelling Bee, Words with Friends, and Wordle. She joined her sisters every morning in competition and was known to shame all with her incredible vocabulary. She loved to read, especially history and crime mysteries. Her greatest love, which she shared with her son Colin, was music. She introduced Colin to her generational favorites, but most importantly, The Beatles. Cindy played the piano, and Colins' talents include the guitar, drums and singing/composing music. Memories of Cindy will always include her generosity, curiosity, compassion, intelligence, and sharp sense of humor. She is well-loved by her family.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Cindy Vaughn will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday November 19, 2024 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Glen Kuhn officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
