Obituary

David Sims Mann, 85 of 135 Calvert St. Hinton, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Saturday February 23, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

Born April 12, 1933 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Henry Clarence and Pauline Sims Mann.

David was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired conductor for the C&O Railroad/CSX Transportation Corp. with 40 years of service. David was a member of Bellepoint Baptist Church in Hinton and as long as health permitted, he enjoyed going to his farm and feeding the turkeys. David also owned a 1957 Chevy and participated in car shows and parades.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James W. Mann; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Phillips, James Shull and Ronnie Honaker; sisters-in-law, Violet Honaker and Frances Angell; granddaughter, Maggie Nichole Hellems.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Angell Mann; two sons, David Scott Mann and wife Riley and Daniel Sims Mann and wife Marty, both of Hinton. Three grandchildren; Chelsea Danielle Mann, Marshall Reid Mann, Megan Lynn Havens and husband Kody, and Bradley Scott Chambers.  One brother-in-law, Bobby Angell and wife Jenny Ruth of Covington, VA. Three sisters-in-law, Betty Mann of Columbia, SC, Carolyn Phillips of Covington, VA , and Glenna Shull of Alderson. A host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday February 26, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the services hour on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be, Mason Jones, Tink Ritter and Chuck Gwinn.

The family would like to thank Peggy Elkins, Jody Mitchell and Leslie Cain for caring for David, and also a special thanks to Bowers Hospice House for their care of David prior to his passing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Dr. Beckley, WV 25801.
