Obituary

We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Dorothy Jewell Worrell Keaton, of Pipestem, WV. She entered into eternal life on Sunday, June 4, 2023. She was 99 years old and had a long and blessed life. Dorothy was born March 12, 1924 in Shawsville, VA to the late Rev. George C. and Eura M. Worrell. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charles Russell Keaton (d. 2013). She was the last surviving member of 15 siblings.

Dorothy moved to Baltimore, MD and began working at the Glenn L. Martin aviation factory to help the war effort during WWII as a Rosie the Riveter. She met her husband, Russell, while working there and they were married on Dec 6, 1946. As newlyweds they moved to Pipestem, WV where they raised their four children on the farm Russell had purchased with his WWII Army savings. They both enjoyed working on their farm and tending cattle. They were active in their church and community and were founding members of the Pipestem Ruritan Club. Dorothy would say, "Russell, we need to go to the garden before it rains". He'd joke to family, ''we'd get nothing done if it didn't rain''.

She attributed her long, healthy life to her father's prayer over her at the age of five when she had an illness and was healed. She honored her mother and father and even sent all of her paychecks from Glenn L. Martin to her parents because she said they needed it more than her. She kept the last check for herself for her bus fare home.

On her last day on earth she wanted and did attend the Pipestem Southern Baptist Church. She was a sweet, Christian lady.

She is survived by her four children, Martha Baker and her husband, Dave, of Beckley, WV; Rita Pack and husband, Steve, of Hinton, WV; Lonnie Keaton and wife, Florence, of Pipestem, WV and Mary Wills of Pipestem, WV. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, Sharon Pack (CA), Myla Williams-Floresca and husband, Paulo (NJ), Valerie Pack (VA), Ron Pack (VA), Chip Williams and wife, Hollie (WV), Rachel Sack and husband, Josh (SC), Jeremy Wills (WV), Matthew Keaton (WV) and 6 great grandchildren, Aleah, Keatley, Naomi and Isabel Sack and Lexa and Dezi Papariello.

At 99 years old she even had a Youtube video about her Rosie The Riveter experience. The link is:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZ0dRGOLk5c
