Douglas Anson
Long
Jun 17, 1944 — Mar 11, 2021
Hinton
Douglas Anson Long of Hinton concluded his earthly life March 11, 2021 at 3:21 p.m., to join hands with his parents and his heavenly Father in that glorious kingdom-free from sickness, suffering and heartache. He was 76.
Doug was a faithful lifelong member of the First Christian Church, a lifelong resident of Hinton, and a 1966 graduate of Hinton High School. Born with a physical disability, he made his home with his parents, the late Roy Clarence Long and Willianna Hancock Long.
He was an avid walker his entire life and could be seen daily walking along the streets of Hinton, even as the frailty of life took its toll. In the latter years, the walks grew shorter and he would stop at the Summers County Library where he would rest and spend a few hours in the "Reading Room", engrossed in a Stephen King novel. He collected stamps, and music, and never missed MASH on METV.
He is survived by a brother, Frederick Daniel Long, Fred's son, Robert-Victor Seiichi Long and daughter, Gertrude Kiyoko Hancock (Long) Lawrence, and her children, Yuki, Midori, and Yumi.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 14. 2021 at First Christian Church in Hinton.
