Obituary

Drema D. Gwinn, 73 of Lockbridge, WV passed away with family members at her side, on Sunday August 7th, 2016 following a prolonged illness. Her family, many friends, and the entire community have lost a courageous, caring person who was known for her generosity and love for others.

She was born January 17, 1943 at Lockbridge, and was the daughter of the late Lockridge L. Gwinn and Violet Hicks Gwinn.

The youngest of 10 children, Drema graduated from Meadow Bridge High School in 1960. Following many years of service, she retired from the Summers County Board of Education, serving as secretary at Sandstone High School, Hinton High School and retiring from the central office. Drema enjoyed quilting and making candy for gifts at Christmas for everyone in the community. She was a member of Lockbridge United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Emma Gwinn Manning and husband Randy; sisters-in-law, Betty Gwinn and Rhoda Gwinn; nieces, Carol Sears, Mary Simms, Judy Gwinn, Becky Richardson, Susan McMillon, Tina Manning Rizzo and also Angela Gwinn, who has been special to Drema all of her life, and a niece-in-law, Peggy Williams; nephews, Jimmy Gwinn, Bobby Gwinn, Kenny Manning and Kevin Manning, and also many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Glenna Williams, Glenna's husband Tom Williams, their son, Avery Allen (Butch) Williams, her brother, Kyle Gwinn, his wife Elizabeth and their son, Lawrence Gwinn, her brother, Lockridge L. Gwinn, Jr. and his wife Doris Stevenson Gwinn, and other brothers, Gary Gwinn, his son, Gary Edward Gwinn, Arlen Gwinn, Dale Gwinn and infant brothers, Carroll and Earl Gwinn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 10, 2016 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Rev. John Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Gwinn Cemetery on Lockbridge Road, with Rev. Robby Shorter officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be; John, Willie, James and Seth Tabor, Paul Lively and Kenneth Gunter. Honorary pallbearers will be; Dale Miller, David Tabor, Hollis (Nip) Bowles, Jack Bowles and Dwight (Spank) Gwinn.

Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in the Memory of Drema Gwinn to the Alpha-1 Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables, FL 33134. (Alpha1.org.).The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, the genetic form of C.O.P.D.,and to improving the life of those affected through education, research and support groups. Drema has been named an Alpha Angel, an honor bestowed by the National Foundation to recognize those who have made a lasting impact on the lives of others.
