Elvera Louise Porterfield, 96 formerly of Hinton, passed away on September 22, 2016 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Elvera was born in Talcott, West Virginia to the late Erastus Berman Roach and Sarah Effie Roach on July 18, 1920.

She went to Talcott High School and graduated in 1938. She worked and made numerous friends at the Hinton Dairy Queen, Cox's Department Store and Kirk's Restaurant. She was involved for many years in the Moose Club and the VFW. She enjoyed gardening and watching her children's sports activities.

Elvera is preceded in death by her husband, Coach James H. Buck' Porterfield, sons James H. Porterfield Jr. and Donald Keith Porterfield, sister Etta Roach Huston and brothers Harry Edward Roach, Raymond R. Roach and Alvin Roach.

Elvera is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Bonshire of Fredericksburg, son, Gerald A. Porterfield and wife Regina of Chesapeake VA., grandchildren Christine E. Hayes and husband Patrick, Matthew Porterfield and wife Catherine of Virginia Beach, VA, Kerri Porterfield Sprouse of Bel Air, MD and Devon Wright of Charlotte, NC, and four great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lyn Porterfield of Maryland.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday September 27, 2016 at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton with Pastor Ronald Cobb officiating. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton.
