Estell G. Adkins, 90 of Big Creek, Summers County, passed away peacefully Saturday February 24, 2024 at Summers County A.R.H. Hospital in Hinton following a long illness.

Born July 18, 1933 in Hinton he was the son of the late John and Hattie Ayers Adkins.

Mr. Adkins was a graduate of Hinton High School and served in the US Army National Guard. He was a retired crew dispatcher for CSX Transportation Corporation in Hinton and was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. He was also a long time farmer and enjoyed being outdoors on his property tending cattle along with spending time with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren.

Estell was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Forren Adkins; one son, Ricky L. Adkins; two daughters, Nancy Sue Brooks and Sharon K. Terry; five brothers, Curtis, Ralph, John Jr., Lloyd and Calvin Adkins; three sisters, Donna Berry, Janelle Whitten and Rita Plumley.

Left to cherish his memory include three daughters, Brenda Gwinn and husband Butch of Hinton, Mary Wheeler and companion David Williams and Sheila Richmond and husband Ralph Jason of Buck; eight grandchildren, Mark Brooks, Dusty Brooks and wife Jena, Jody Gwinn, Jessica Graft and husband Jeremy, Shawn Terry and wife Jessica, Melinda Stover and husband Sterling, T.J. Cales and wife Brittany, Skylar Meadows and husband Taylor; eighteen great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Estell Adkins will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday February 27, 2024 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Daniel Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery at Powleys Creek. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be; Jeremy Graft, Tucker Gibson, Sterling Stover, Taylor Meadows and Shawn Terry.
