Obituary

Eugene Franklin Jones, Sr., 85 of Meadow Creek, died Wednesday Jan. 22, 2020 at Main Street Care in Hinton and is now in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Born Dec. 31, 1934 at Meadow Creek, he was the son of the late Roy Edward and Beatrice Mabel Hoke Jones.

He was known to family and friends around Meadow Creek as "Bubby" Jones. He attended Sandstone High School and was a member of the class of 1952. He went to work for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway on Sept. 15, 1952 at Meadow Creek as a clerk in the yard office. He later filled job positions as needed by the C&O at the Hinton yard office, Hinton depot, Hinton freight office, Montgomery depot sorting mail during Christmas, Quinnimont, Raleigh, MD cabin at Meadow Creek and JD cabin in Rainelle. It was while working for the railroad in Hinton that he got the nickname, "Tiz" Jones that stuck with him throughout the rest of his railroad employment. After retirement from the railroad, he worked at Kroger in Hinton and later for WalMart in Fayette County. He also was an associate of Pivont Funeral Home and Southern Mortuary Service in Hinton during his retirement years.

He enjoyed gardening, bowling, camping and spending time with his family and friends, but most of all he enjoyed eating good food. He could be heard at Main Street Care around meal time saying, "Bring on the groceries" or "it's bean time on the prairie".

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Fern Jones, a brother, Shirley Roy Jones, a granddaughter, Billie Jo Petrey, whom he dearly loved.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Julie A. Simpson and husband Chris of Daniels, WV; a son, Eugene F. Jones and wife Mary Pat of Meadow Creek; beloved grandson, Luke Jones of Meadow Creek; a brother, Edward M. "Red" Jones of Hinton; niece, Lynn Jones of Hinton; nephew, Troy Jones of Texas. Also, his extended family that includes all the wonderful staff at Main Street Care in Hinton who took such wonderful care of him for nearly six years. The family cannot say enough about the loving care he got while at Main Street Care.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Dana Stalnaker officiating. Burial will follow in Meadow Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be: Pastor Harry Allen, Jerry Gwinn, Timothy Grimmett, Mark Ward, Oliver Stone and Darrell Cooper.
