Frederick Paul Townsley, Sr. 79 of Danville, WV formerly of Hinton died Friday August 20, 2021 at CAMC Memorial Division in Charleston after an extended illness.

Born November 11, 1941 at Brooks, WV he was the son of the late James Henry and Roxie Jane Bennett Townsley.

Mr. Townsley was a retired carman with CSX Transportation Corporation with 30 plus years of service. He was a graduate of the Diesel Engine Mechanic School in Louisville, KY and built race cars for his son, Paul, Jr. Together, they raced throughout southern West Virginia on dirt tracks. He was an avid gardener and a U.S. Army veteran.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Stuart Eugene Christian and George Roger Townsley.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Marlene Meadows Townsley; son, Frederick Paul Townsley, Jr. of Danville and daughter, Deborah Lynn (Debbie) Townsley of Danville; four grandchildren, Brandi and Matt Harvey, Blake and Danielle Spurlock, Ashley Townsley, Jeremiah Butcher and Jesse Spurlock; one sister, Anna Rose Townsley Pack of North Olmsted, OH;nine great grandchildren, Riley, Breven, Embri, Julianna, Brees, Blaze, Lakyn, London and Emily.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday August 24, 2021 at Roles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery at Forest Hill, WV with Pastor Walt Bonnell officiating. Family visitation will be private and those wishing to attend the graveside are asked to meet at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriner's Children's Hospital.
