Garland Dempsey Sears, 70 of Brooks, passed away Sunday February 20, 2022 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a short illness.

Born April 21, 1951 in Summers County, he was the son of the late Willard Dempsey and Bessie Buckland Sears.

Garland was a timberman and logger and operated Sears Trucking Corporation for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed carpentry as a hobby. He attended Riverview Chapel Church in Hinton and will be sorely missed by his entire family.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Sears and two sisters, Martha Sears and Shirley Berry.

Survivors include his best friend and companion of 18 years, Jean Yancey of Brooks, WV; one son, Paul Allen Sears and wife Joyce of Jumping Branch, WV; five grandchildren, Kaylee Farmer, Timothy Sears, Morgan Sears, Jacob Sears and Kendall Sears; step-mother, Georgia M. Sears of Hinton, WV; one brother, Joe Sears of Brooks, WV; one sister Addie Ward of Greenville, WV; two step-brothers, David Sears of Hinton and Roger Berry of Beckley; three step-sisters, Bonnie Martin of Hinton and Rita Price of Beckley and Georgia Klosski of Beckley.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 26, 2022 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Scott Ross officiating. Burial will follow in the Sears Family Cemetery at Tug Creek, WV. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be; Paul Allen Sears, Charles Pitzer, Jacob Sears, Timothy Sears, Tyler Pitzer and Josh Pitzer.
