Garnet Dale Edwards, known affectionately as Cotton, passed away on September 13, 2024 at the age of 81 in his hometown of True, West Virginia. He was born on December 10, 1942, in True, where he spent most of his life, surrounded by the beauty of the mountains he loved.

Cotton had a diverse career, having worked at General Motors, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. In addition to his time at the factory, he was an avid beagler and enjoyed the companionship of his beloved dogs. Cotton also had a talent for hairdressing, often using his skills to bring joy to those around him.

Cotton was a man of many passions, enjoying beagling, hunting, fishing, traveling, and camping. He was not only known for his outdoor pursuits but also for his remarkable journey of sobriety; he was 42 years sober and served as a sponsor to many in Alcoholics Anonymous, offering guidance and support to those seeking recovery.

Cotton was a proud member of the Bobcat Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in wrestling during high school, Cotton dedicated himself to his family and community. He was a committed Christian who attended church at both James Chapel and Jordans Chapel at True WV and enjoyed listening to his church hymns.

Cotton was preceded in death by his mother Mae Lowe Edwards, father E.T. "Bee" Edwards, brother Paul Edwards and one son Steve Edwards

Cotton is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Constance Edwards of True WV, and their children: Dale Edwards of St. Louis, Missouri; John Richmond and Lisa Edwards of True, West Virginia; Shawna Rock and Bobbie Matney of Clyde, Ohio; Neva Christoph of New London, Ohio; and Jimmy and Lyle Hicks of Manchester, Kentucky. He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Adreanna Grimmett of True, West Virginia, and Shyann Richmond of True West Virginia, whom he raised. In addition, he leaves behind several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Gail Keaton, and her husband, Edward Keaton, of Bassett, Virginia.

Funeral services to celebrate Cottons' life will be held at 2:00 p.m Wednesday September 18, 2024 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Randy Sargeant and Matthew Trail officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cottons pall bearers include: Jeremy Grimmett, Travis Christoph, A.J. Blausey, Steve Ramsey, Curtis Burdette, and Jack Lester.
