Obituary

Gary Wayne Adkins, 72 of Brooks, went home to be with the Lord at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday September 27, 2022 at the home of his daughter at Nimitz following a short illness.

Born August 18, 1950 at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Forest "Sug" and Madeline Meadows Adkins.

Gary was a graduate of Hinton High School and received a BS in Accounting from Concord College. Gary was a retired warehouse supervisor for the Federal Prison Camp at Alderson and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as pastoral minister at Hinton First Christian Church since 1995 and was very devoted to his ministry. Gary was an avid gardener, loved to trout fish and loved his family and grandchildren and was a proud Republican.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Adkins; a son, John Michael Adkins; three brothers, Charles and Vernon Adkins and Acie Ayers and an infant sister, Barbara Ann Adkins.

Survivors include four daughters, Holly Elizabeth Mills and husband Zane of Nimitz, Sharon Marie Osgood and husband Shane of Peterstown, Janette Morgan of Covington, VA and Carolyn Ruth Edwards and husband Jason of Princeton; four brothers, Warren Adkins and wife Lisa of Winchester, VA, Farrell Adkins and wife Susie of McLeansville, NC, Robert Adkins and wife Roberta of Rio Grande, OH and Stephen Adkins and wife Denise of Burlington, NC; two sisters, Carol Thompson of Burlington, NC and Wanda K. Ball of Talcott; six grandchildren, Evan Michael Lane, Tyler Ethen Benfield, Hannah Madison Waldron, Chase Harden Edwards, Blake Tyler Morgan and Alexis Nicole Stockman; one great grandchild, Claira Jean Morgan; brothers-in-law, Michael "Woody" McGuire of Riverside Rest, WV and John McGuire of Summersville, WV; sister-in-law, Myra Murray and husband Glenn of Pawleys Island, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 1, 2022 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Minister Paul Zutaut officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
