Born February 7, 1962 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Howard Roscoe and Pansy Hammonds Cox.

Gary attended Hinton High School. He was a former employee of Lowes Corporation in Stafford, Virginia, where he was a fork lift operator for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his beloved grandsons.

He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Delores Swim Cox, one daughter, Tasha Cox, one step-son, Michael Swim, two grandsons, Cayden and Braxton Cox, all of Hinton,three brothers, James Cox and Bernard Cox, both ofHinton and Ken Cox & fiancee' Trisha of Cool Ridge, three sisters, Patricia Meador & husband Donald, Lola Cox and Alice Adkins, all of Hinton. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 9, 2016 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Robbie Merritt and LarryCoxofficiating. Burial will follow in the Farley Cemetery at River Ridge. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
