Irene K.
Ball
Dec 20, 1919 — Dec 6, 2018
Lewisburg
Irene K. "Rene" Ball, 98, of Lewisburg, WV, formerly of Hinton, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the Brier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ronceverte, WV due to many cumulative medical conditions over the years. She was the last living member of her family of origin. Born December 20, 1919 in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late George Edward Krise and Clara Christian Krise, the next-to-the- youngest of six siblings.
Mrs. Ball was a dedicated and meticulous homemaker, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and member of Bellepoint Baptist Church in Hinton, WV dating back about sixty-five years. Her interests revolved around her family – immediate and extended – and her strong Christian faith. Although relocation to Lewisburg and ever-growing health concerns made continued fellowship with that church impossible, while a resident of the Seasons for six years, and The Brier for three, she enjoyed the outreach ministry of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and, accordingly, was enlightened by many visits, prayers, cards, and the ministry of congregants and pastors of LUMC through those years. The family sincerely thanks them for their kindness and faithful ministry to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Ball Sr., to whom she was married fifty-three years at his death in 1988, four sisters: infant Virginia Dare Krise, Mamie Reid (Dink) of Portsmouth, VA, Amma J. Mann (Ivan) of Massillon, OH and Twila K. Hellems (Bill) of Hinton; and a brother, the youngest sibling, George E. "Speedy" Krise, Jr. (Freda) of Portsmouth, VA. Also, she was preceded in death by nephews Dr. Tommy Joe Hellems (Jewell) of Charlestown, WV, John Mann of Akron, OH., Chuck Mann (Dee) of Jacksonville, FL., and two nieces, Nancy Taylor (Bob) of Dover, Delaware and Sarah Bradberry (Jack) of Hinton. She was likewise preceded in death by several cousins and sisters/brothers-in-law over her long life.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas E. "Brad" Ball, Jr. (Jo Lynn) and Joseph H. Ball (Linda), all of Lewisburg, WV, two grandchildren, Renee Harvey (Randy) of Alderson, WV and Thomas E. Ball, III of Largo, FL., one great- grandson, Matthew Harvey of Athens, WV and a step-grandson, Herbert "Bert" Yates (Yvette) of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by nieces Georgia Gardner of Akron, OH, Sue Kilpatrick (Leo) of Suffolk, VA, Carolyn Burrowbridge of Birmingham, AL, Sandra "Sandy" Clark (Gary) of Pearisburg, VA., Lynne Struble (Skip) of Pittsburgh, PA., Anna Lou Bartgis (Kent), Joni Koenig of Hinton, Linda Carver (Garry) of Wellborn, FL, and Susan Orders of Charleston, WV. Also, Irene is survived by two step-great granddaughters: Nicole Harvey Adkins (Charles) of Princeton, WV and Amber Harvey Toney (Cody) of Layland, WV. Nephews include Ned Reid (Margaret) of Portsmouth, VA, George Edward "Ed" Krise III (Ruth) of Akron, OH, Randall S. "Randy" Meadows (Sharon) of New Canaan, CT, Randy Bragg of Nimitz, Jim Ball (Diane) of Chesapeake, OH and a host of great- nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Irene's family wishes to lovingly recognize a very special niece for her unwavering and stalwart love for our matriarch – with her weekly phone calls, frequent visits, even though she lives five hours away, cards and other expressions of love and familial devotion. That special niece is Dr. Lois Jean Reid of Virginia Beach VA, whose devotion to her aunt Rene has been both moving and superlative. Moreover, the same can be said for Lois' and our good friend, June Glass of Middletown, DE – whom Irene and her entire family long ago came to claim as family. Thank you both. Your loyalty has been stunning! Also, our loving thanks posthumously to Jane (Ball) Meadows (Irene's late husband's only sister) and husband Scott Meadows, who for many years were so kind and charitable. Rest in peace. Finally, we wish to sincerely thank the staff at The Brier for the professional and kind care, treatment, rehabilitation and services they provided. We would also extend those same sentiments to The Seasons and to Conni Anderson, D.O. We recognize that it wasn't always easy. Thanks to all of you.
