James Leonard Atkinson, 77, of Charmco, passed away, Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center.

Born August 4, 1943, in Montcalm, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Leonard Newton Atkinson, and Hazel Mae McCormick Weeks.

Jim was pastor of the Trinity New Covenant Church in Rainelle.  He enjoyed studying his Bible, serving the Lord, spending time with his family, playing with his dogs, watching Marshall University football and working in his yard.

Jim was a graduate of Marshall University and an Army veteran.  He served four years as a Military Police Officer stationed in Pisa, Italy. While serving he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, was a National Defense Service Medal Expert and a Sharpshooter.

Before retiring to serve the Lord, Jim was a small business owner selling mining equipment.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Art Weeks.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sulestine "Tina" Ayers Atkinson; son, Michael (Candy) Atkinson of Clarksburg; daughter, Natalie (Joe) Webb of Morgantown; and four stepsons, Richard (Christy) Allen of Sandstone; Pete (Denise) Allen, of Gap Mills; Paul (Laura) Allen of Bragg; and Lonnie Allen of Bellwood.  Also surviving are his brother, Robert (Marie) Atkinson of Washington; two sisters Carolyn (Carl) White of Quinwood; Betty (Bill) Lodgston of Oregon; two stepbrothers Clark Weeks and Lynn Weeks, both of Quinwood; twenty-two grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Sister Audrey and Brother Herman Bryant for their continued care and support throughout Jim's illness-especially those no bake cookies!
