James H. Brightwell, age 92, passed away peacefully at home in Charleston, WV, on September 30, 2019.

Born June 21, 1927 in Hinton, WV.  He was the son of the late Frank H. and Emma Maupin Brightwell.  Mr. Brightwell was preceded in death by his wife Phillis(Jane) Morrison Brightwell, on July 4, 2000.

At age 17, he entered the Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII.  He was on Okinawa when the Japanese surrendered in 1945.  Jim, as he was known, worked for the C&O Railway for 44 years; first as an electrician and later as a mechanical department foreman.  Jim was a Christian and loved the Lord.  Prior to his illness, Jim was an active Member in his church, Memorial Baptist in Beckley.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons William H. Brightwell and his wife Jamie; Stephen C. Brightwell and his wife Shelley.  His grandchildren Elizabeth Anne and John Collin Brightwell, Marie White and her husband Mike, Kristina Hayden and her husband Chris and their children Abbi and Erin.  Jim had a special friend, Betty Mills, with whom he spent his later years.  Betty was a wonderful companion who also enjoyed Jim's love of gardening.

A memorial service will be held at the Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton at 1:00pm on November 2, 2019.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenbrier Burial Park in Hinton.
