James Curtis Richmond, 85 of Freezeland Moutain, died at 7:00 p.m. Friday January 13, 2017 at his home following a long illness.

Born September 12, 1931 in Hinton, he was the son of the late John Newton and Mary Jane Plumley Richmond.

Mr. Richmond was a retired truck driver and welder and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had lived most of his life in Raleigh County and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, infant Dreama Kay Richmond and Rebecca Treadway; one grandson, Rex Richmond,  Jr.; a great granddaughter, Jenna Carpenter and two brothers, William J. and Raymond Richmond.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Helen Frances Stoddard Richmond; two sons, James C. Richmond, Jr. and wife Tammy of Lexington, TN and John C. Richmond and wife Vicky of Elliston, VA; four daughters, Mary Evans and husband Marvin of White Oak, WV, Barbara Richmond and husband Rex of Freezeland Mountain, Brenda Richmond and husband Bernie of Hinton and Clara Carpenter and husband John of Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 17, 2017 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jeff Canterbury officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Richmond Family Cemetery near Hinton. Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be; Johnny, Jimmy, Jess and Dennis Richmond, Frankie Neubert and Joseph Murdock.
