James Adam "Dutch" Holbert, 89 of Leesburg, Florida, died Sunday June 27, 2021 in Leesburg.

Born October 5, 1931 in Charleston, WV he was the son of the late James Warren and Minnie Ora Trail Holbert.

Dutch Holbert was the oldest of 4 children. ("Dutch", Warren Lee, "Chubby", & Mary Carol)

Dutch graduated in 1949 from Hinton High School in Hinton, WV. He married Marilyn Huddleston, an RN graduate of the Stuart Circle Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. After high school, he went to work for the C&O Railroad in Hinton, worked for Goodyear in Akron, OH, and was selected to become an electrical apprentice with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad, working in WV, Michigan, Virginia, and Ohio. He retired as the Electrical Foreman at the C&O Docks in Toledo, Ohio. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Always a talented all-around athlete, Dutch played basketball, football, and baseball in high-school, and after high school was a pitcher for the city baseball team, the Hinton "Fire Eaters", in the independent King Coal League.

After retirement, he settled with his wife Marilyn in The Plantation Retirement Community, Leesburg, FL, where he was an avid golfer, traveler, and bridge player.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Murrell Shelton "Chubby" Holbert and Warren Lee Holbert.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Huddleston Holbert; one sister, Mary Carol Holbert of The Villages, FL; several nieces and nephews also survive.

A private committal service with burial will be held at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton on Tuesday July 6, 2021. A public memorial service will be held at a later date in Florida.
