It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of James "Lee" McClung of Hinton, West Virginia. Lee went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 27 at the age of 70 after a courageous battle with cancer. Despite the pain, Lee fought this disease with great dignity and positivity.

Lee was a devoted husband and father, with no shortage of life experiences. In his youth he was an avid motorcyclist, raised Saint Bernards, studied martial arts, and was an accomplished high school basketball player. Lee graduated from Athens High School in 1970 and Concord College in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in Social Work as part of the first Social Work graduating class. He went on to have a long career in mental health services and corrections. He married the love of his life, Janet, in 1986 and together, they adopted a daughter, Kaylee, in 1991. Lee was involved in providing security services to his churches of membership and was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Hinton. Later in life, Lee and Janet were able to travel to many of their "bucket list" destinations including Hawaii, Las Vegas, and the Grand Canyon. Only four weeks prior to his passing, they were able to visit Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, Wyoming as well as many other locales in his dream trip out west. To say Lee lived life to the fullest is an understatement.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Velma McClung, his paternal grandparents, Luther and Stella McClung,  maternal grandmother, Lillie Maxwell and a nephew, Tom Meadows.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Osborne McClung; daughter, Kaylee; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Sheila McClung; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Steve Meadows; nieces and nephews, Cris, Missa, Mika, Laura, and Ike; grand nieces and nephews, Sean, Maria, Nash, Gracie, Cy, and Mia; great-grandnephew, Raylon; granddog, Agnes; and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday October 2, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Hinton with Pastors Doc Adkins and Chris Campbell officiating.  A private internment will take place at a later date at Roles Chapel Church Cemetery at Forest Hill, WV.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Southern West Virginia or your local church in honor of Lee.
