John Russell Johnson, 100 of Meadow Creek, died Saturday January 7, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born April 6, 1916 at Quinnimont, WV he was the son of the late James Issac and Della Mae Taylor Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was retired from the maintenance division of the C&O Railway Company in Hinton. He was a member of Sandstone Baptist Church and a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening and most of all spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was a lifelong resident of Summers County.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Lucille Bragg Johnson; second wife, Alma McCormick Johnson; a son, James Bruce Johnson; four brothers and one sister.

Survivors include two daughters, Dora Ann Reed and husband Carl and Bonnie Mae Hatcher, all of Glen Morgan, WV; a daughter-in-law, Paula Johnson of Miami, FL; three sisters, Evelyn Hines of Rupert, Lucille Bennett of Rainelle and Maxine Shortland of Meadow Creek; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 11, 2017 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Jackie Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery at Sandstone. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
