John William Medley, 97 of Hinton passed away Wednesday March 2, 2022 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law David and Kim Medley in Lewisburg.

He was born May 5, 1924 in Hinton, a son of the late Edgar and Carrie Grooms Medley.

John was a lifelong resident of Hinton and worked on the construction of the Bluestone Dam. He was a retired clerk for the C&O Railway Company in Hinton with 45 years of service. John was a member of Second Baptist Church in Hinton and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed walking and talking with friends and was a member of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Gussie Williams Medley; two sons, John W. Medley, Jr. and Dennis M. Medley; six sisters, Arthelia Medley Smith, Marcella Medley Baker, Laura Medley Carter, Elinor Medley Williams, Mary Medley Hughes and Ann Medley; two brothers, Bill Medley and Edgar Medley, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Kermit Medley and companion Grace Stone of Elizabeth, NJ and David C. Medley, Sr. and wife Kim of Lewisburg, WV; one daughter, Cassandra Medley of Toledo, OH; two sisters, Carrie Medley Abram of California and Patricia Gore of Pennsylvania; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion of 15 years, Mr. Duke.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday March 8, 2022 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Anthony Medley officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
