Obituary

John Wesley Smith, 83, of Meadow Creek passed away Monday February 3, 2020 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.

Born June 26, 1936 at Meadow Creek he was the son of the late Jason and Chlorea Gwinn Smith.

John was an heavy equipment operator in construction, a former coal miner, and worked as a railway brakeman. He was U.S Army veteran and operated a grocery store and restaurant at Meadow Creek for many years.He loved playing Bluegrass and Gospel music and was of the Holliness faith.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; Kyle, Paul, Junior, Boone, and Sam Smith, also by six sisters; Louisa Richmond, Dee Dee Stiles, Pearl Wilburn, Martha Fannery, Nellie Lester, and Ester Dilegge.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Kathern Dunn Smith. Two sons; Josh Wayne Smith of Westminister, MD and Tanner Wesley Smith and wife Tonya of Lumberton, NC. One daughter Colleen Sue Bowles and husband Virgil of Meadow Bridge. One brother Manuel Smith and wife Shirley of Danese. Ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday February 7, 2020 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Rev. Shirley Sheets officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Family Cemetery at Meadow Creek.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday February 6, 2020 at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton.
