Obituary

In loving memory of John Willard Richmond.  "Well done, good and faithful servant…" Matthew 25:23.

John "Johnny" Richmond, age 61, of True, West Virginia passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

Born on August 29, 1964 in Hinton, WV, John proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1983 to 2013, achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his service, he proudly served on the Inauguration Safety Staff for President Obama.  John always told the story of how he thought he was going to have to deliver a baby, and he hoped it wasn't much different than delivering a calf.  In addition, he served in Operation Desert Shield and many natural disasters in our wonderful state that Johnny dearly loved.

During his military career John dedicated his life to carpentry, a trade that he was privileged to learn from the best craftsman to teach him: his father John A. Richmond and his beloved uncles.  John crafted our lovely residence.  From a young age, John also developed a love of the land, farming and livestock instilled in him by his papaw Noah Pack.  Farming was the one thing John could and would talk to anyone for hours at a time.

John will be remembered for always embodying the values of honor, value, and commitment.  Furthermore, Johnny will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, always helping someone in need, and devotion to family.

John is survived by his loving wife, Josette Richmond and youngest daughter, Riley Richmond, both of True.  Other children include Tonna Meadows (Porter) of Shady Springs, Tasha Bragg (Shawn) of Brooks, and Jonathan Richmond (Myra) of Fairmont.  Also left to cherish John's memory are eight grandchildren: Kinzey Martin (Casey), Angel Robertson (JD), Kole Martin, Destani Belcher (Mikey), Haileigh Bell (Luke), Aerial Dickenson, Brantley Dickenson, and Karter Bragg; great grandchildren: Corbin and Deacon Willard Belcher, Adley and Ivy Robertson, and Lavilyn Smith. Siblings include Allen Richmond, Darrel Richmond (Katherine), Ann Lewis (Philip), Tammy Richmond and special sister, Lawanda "Toad"Brown (Brian), sister, Lisa Edwards ;special niece, Tamara Light.

John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Louise Richmond and Garnet "Cotton" Edwards; his beloved grandparents, Noah and Margaret Pack; great granddaughter, Millie Smith.
