Johnny Dale Gunter, 72 formerly of Sandstone, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 23, 2021.

He was born November 21, 1948 in Sandstone, WV to the late Nelsie E. Ayers Gunter Hicks and John Lemley Gunter.

Johnny attended church most his life, enjoying having the Bible read to him and memorizing verses. His favorite scripture to quote was John 14:2. He also loved watches and listening to the radio. Johnny greeted everyone with a smile.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his step-father, Howard Hicks; brother, Lemley Edward Gunter and sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Richmond Davis.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Maxine Maxwell of Athens, WV, Lucille Williams of Green Sulphur Springs, Patty Osborne (Tom) of Shady Spring; brothers, James Gunter (Harriet) of Sandstone, Dallas Forrest Gunter of Hinton, Bobby Gunter (Norma) of Hinton; sister-in-law, Anna Gunter (Lem) of Narrows, VA; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday January 26, 2021 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Ernie Junior Moye officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery at Sandstone. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
