Joseph Paul Peplowski, 70 of Nimitz, WV passed away Sunday morning August 23, 2026 at his home following a one year illness.
Joe was born October 2, 1955 in Albany, New York, a son of the late Joseph Edward and Elizabeth Pachuta Peplowski.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and earned an associates degree in draftsman engineering from West Virginia Tech at Montgomery.
Joe’s professional career began at Gilbert Mining Controls and later was employed for many years at the Beckley VA Medical Center. In addition, he served as assistant Chief at Beaver Volunteer Fire Department, where he was instrumental in organizing the HART TEAM. Joe was also a licensed EMT for the Beckley Ambulance Service. His dedication to serving others was evident and he was faithful in every vocation he held. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hinton, the Friars Club at St. Patrick and also a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley. Joe’s hobbies included woodworking, hunting as well as being an avid sports fan, especially the WVU Mountaineers. Most of all, he was a devoted husband and father and will be missed by his entire family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Minnie Ellen McKinney.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Janice McKinney Peplowski; a daughter, Katie Peplowski at home; three sisters, including Joe’s twin, Joanne Peplowski of Beckley, Mary Ann Peplowski of Beckley and Elizabeth (Beth) Peplowski of Beckley; two brothers, John Peplowski and wife Kathy of Grandview, WV and Walter Peplowski of Beckley; father in law, James A. McKinney of Nimitz, WV; nephews, Joshua Peplowski and wife Sarah of Fairlea, WV, Phillip Peplowski of Grandview, WV, Mitchell Boone and wife Hannah of Red Sulphur Springs, WV and Jarred Boone and wife Lexie of Cleveland, OH; niece, Kelly McGhee and husband Brandon of Lindside, WV; great nieces, Payton, Adeline, Charlotte and Joceyln Peplowski and Eleanor Boone; great nephews, Mason and Hudson McGhee and Damon Boone; God-daughter, Kim Cragle of New Castle, PA; aunts, Margie Reinhardt of Cincinnati, OH and Ann Pachuta of Cary, NC; Brother-in-law, Pat Boone and wife Lisa of Ballard and numerous cousins along with Joe’s best friend, Aleu Husky also survive.
Funeral Liturgy will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday August 26, 2026 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Father Leonard Smith officiating. Rite of committal will follow at Fairview Church Cemetery at Forest Hill, WV. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be: Joshua and Phillip Peplowski, Mitchell Boone, and Jarred and Ian Shaffer.
