Joyce Lee Hicks, 84 of Shady Spring, passed away Sunday Sept. 22, 2019 at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a long illness.

Born June 25, 1935 in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Hattie Higginbotham Boland.

Joyce was a 1953 graduate of Hinton High School. She was formerly employed at the Hinton Hospital and retired from Raleigh General Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy B. Hicks, January 13, 2016. Also by 2 brothers, Myrl and Joe Boland.

Survivors include nephews, Mitch and wife Susan Boland of Shady Spring, Patrick Boland & wife Susie of Lorton, VA and Mike Boland & wife Myra of Hinton. Three nieces, Shari Thompson & husband Steve of Petersburg, WV, Teresa Lampe of North Carolina and Marilyn Stump of North Carolina.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday Oct. 3, 2019 at Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton with Pastor Ken Webb officiating. There will be no visitation. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at the cemetery.
