Kay Richard Bartgis, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29th surrounded by his family.
Kay was born in Talcott, WV to Howard and Pearl Rudisill Bartgis. He was one of eight children. He is preceeded in death by brothers Jerry and Howard Bartgis, and sisters Margaret and Martha Bartgis and Linda Walkup and is survived by sisters Jean Ray of Hilldale, WV and Donna Bartgis of Lexington, NC and sister-in-law Janet Bartgis of Tappahannock, VA.
He graduated from Talcott High School in 1951 and joined the Navy. He served 1952-1956 during the Korean War. In 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Susan "Sue" Bartgis. They had three children, Mike (Linda), Jeff (Rene), and Dave (Sandy). After the Navy, Kay worked for Newport News Shipbuilding as an electrician for 36 years. A thorough country boy, Kay loved to hunt, fish, and tinker. He had a green thumb and would have a beautiful vegetable garden every year. Kay always remembered his roots and visited WV several times a year for the annual Rudisill family reunion, to see his family, hunt, and get a good deal at the flea market.
He was married to his sweetheart for 58 years and leaves behind his wife, three children, two sisters, a sister-in-law five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and another great-grandchild on the way.
A graveside service will be heldat a later date atOak Grove Cemetery in Talcott.
