Kenneth R. Cox, Sr., 65, died following a long illness July 21, 2023, at his home in Cool Ridge. He was born March 17, 1958, in Hinton, WV, the son of the late Howard R. and Pansy (Hammonds) Cox.

Kenneth was a coal miner employed at Tyler Morgan Coal Company. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Kenneth was of the Christian faith and loved spending time with his family.

Besides his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by brothers James "Buck" Cox, Bernard "Duke" Cox, Gary R. Cox, and Roger D. Cox; one sister, Lola, M. Cox; nephew Roger "Punkin" Cox; and niece Tasha Cox.

Survivors include longtime companion of 15 years, Patricia Altizer; sons Kenneth Cox, Jr of Jumping Branch and Tyler Cox of Beckley; daughter Vickie Lynn Cox of Jumping Branch; two sisters, Alice Adkins and Patricia Meador, both of Hinton; Step son Chet Mills of Narrows, Va;  step-daughters Robyn Collins of Garwood, WV, Tasha Richmond of Brooks, WV, and Tonna Meadows of Shady Spring, WV; and three grandchildren, Colton Cox, Ty Cox, and Parker Taylor.  He was expecting his first great grandson, Ruger Hunter, this fall.  Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Pivont Funeral Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Larry Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery on Powley's Creek.  Friends may call from 12:00 pm until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chet Mills, Colton Cox, Ty Cox, and Tyler Cox.
