It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leonard Alvin "Shorty" Webb, 85, who was born on Mothers Day May 14, 1939 and passed away on May 25, 2024 in Forest Hill.
Leonard was the beloved son of Jesse and Florence Martin Webb and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was the loving spouse of Jewel Frances Bleau Webb, whom he was married to for 60 years. Leonard is survived by his three children, Julie Fisher (spouse Mike) of Radford, VA, Kenneth Webb (spouse Donna) of Forest Hill and Mike Webb (partner Carin Prescott) of Princeton, WV. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Dr. Susan Mahlberg (husband Derick), Amber Bennett (husband Ronnie), Jesse Webb (wife Angie), Jessica Fisher, Amanda Payne, Elliott Webb, Spencer Webb and Sully Webb. He and Jewel also have 11 great grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, William "Billy" Bleau (wife Delores) of Wallbridge, OH and a number of nieces and nephews. He had a special relationship with his niece, Carolyn Ann Painter.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Jim, Jack, Melvin, Herman, Donald and infant baby sister Mary Ann.
Leonard was the recipient of the WV Golden Horseshoe Award and graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1958. He proudly served in the US Air Force and went on to work at Celanese Corporation, where he dedicated 37 years before retiring in 2002.
A devout Christian and member of Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill, WV, he enjoyed playing guitar and singing songs in the church choir and performing at various churches in the area. Together with his wife Jewel, he wrote two original songs that have been copyrighted. He also taught men's Sunday School class for many years.
Leonard was a dedicated sports fan, with a special place in his heart for the Kansas City Chiefs and WVU football. He enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams with his family and friends, creating lasting memories. Leonard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday May 30, 2024 at Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill with Pastor Charles Drake officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Pallbearers will be; Spencer Webb and Sully Webb, Rudy Allen, Robbie Richmond, Ronnie Bennett and Keith Mills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Baptist Church.
