Obituary

Marcia Gail Myers Ellington, 72, of Hinton, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital, leaving behind a lifetime of love, service, compassion, and cherished memories.

Marcia was born on July 31, 1954, in Hinton, West Virginia, to the late Robert Frank “Popeye” Myers and Marie Brown Myers. She dedicated her life to caring for others and began her nursing career as an LPN in Germany while her husband was serving in the Army. She later furthered her education and earned her Associate Degree in Nursing, becoming a registered nurse.

Marcia spent 26 years caring for patients at Byrd Regional Hospital in Leesville, Louisiana. She later returned to West Virginia and worked at Bluefield Regional Medical Center before retiring. Even after retirement, her desire to help others never faded. She served as a staff nurse at Summers County Senior Citizens, continuing to provide care and kindness to those around her.

Marcia had made Hinton her home for the last 10 years and was a member of Miller Memorial Methodist Church. She also participated in several churches throughout the area, where she shared her time, faith, and caring spirit.

Marcia had a generous heart and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed traveling, painting, cruising, and making memories with those she loved. She was also a member of the Delphi Club and treasured the friendships and fellowship she found there.

In addition to her parents, Marcia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James “Jimmy” Ellington; her daughter, Heather Robbins; and her brother-in-law, Alan Harvey.

Those left to cherish Marcia’s memory include sister, Sue Ann Harvey of Princeton; her boyfriend, Greg Bennett of Hinton; her best friend, Betty Cales of Hinton; her stepdaughter, Jamie Wittenborn and fiancé Richard Cox of Hazel Green, Alabama; step-grandchildren, Brayden Wittenborn, Aubree Wainwright and husband Logan, Landen, Hunter, Kenzee, Izabella, and Emmaleigh Whittenborn. She is also survived by her nephew, Travis Harvey of Lynchburg, Virginia; and her beloved dog, Frankie.

Marcia’s life was defined by her love for others and her dedication to caring for those in need. Her final act of charity was one of extraordinary generosity: she chose to be an organ donor. Through that selfless gift, Marcia continued her lifelong legacy of helping others and giving hope and the gift of life even after her passing.

Marcia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, church family, former patients, coworkers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, compassion, humor, and generous spirit will remain in the hearts of those she touched. Though her passing was sudden and unexpected, the love she gave so freely will never be forgotten.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. John Sauvage officiating. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the service begins.
