Margaret Eloise Carter Briggs, 80 of Woodbridge, VA formerly of Hinton, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020, at her home following a long illness.
Born April 5, 1940, in Hinton, she was the daughter of Clara Eloise Jones Crockett of Roosevelt, NY, and the late Arthur Jones.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Hinton and was retired from the Kroger Corporation, having worked in both Hinton and Beckley. She was a former member of Second Baptist Church in Hinton and a current member of First Baptist Church in North Beckley. She enjoyed fishing and watching her grandchildren play sports. Margaret was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister.
She was preceded in death by her father Arthur Jones, an infant son, Carl E. Carter, Jr. and one daughter, Loretta Annette Carter.
Survivors include her mother, Clara Eloise Crockett of Roosevelt, NY; four sons, Tyrone Johnson, with whom she made her home of Woodbridge, VA, Robert Carter (Eileen) of New Lebanon, OH and Harold Johnson (Jim) of Evington, VA, and Solon Briggs of Winston-Salem, NC; one daughter Cerita Carter of Beckley; one sister, Jeanette Burwell of Roosevelt, NY; sisters-in-love, Alice Sims of Notasulga, AL, Mabel Johnson of Hempstead, NY and Dreama Beauford (Ralph) of Roanoke, VA. Thirteen grandchildren, Shon, Carl, Akeya, Micah, Meko, Jahnae, NaShay, Noah, Tayah, Solon, III, Jevon, SoLea and Naliah.; 11 great-grandchildren, Truth, Hope, Kimmora, Michael, Mya, MaKai, Promise, Aiyanna, Success, Lynden and Zoee; niece, Roberta Jones(John) and nephew, Jeffrey Burwell (Sandy), along with a host of extended family and friends.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Esquire Cemetery in Hinton with Minister Akeya Carter and Rev.Micah Carter officiating. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of departure for the graveside at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton.
Due to current circumstances, social distancing will be adhered to per CDC recommendations.
