Mary Sampson Cox, 71 of Pipestmem, passed away Wednesday June 8, 2022 at her home following a short illness.

Born March 21, 1951 at Clifftop, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Lorena V. Ward Sampson.

Mary was a 1970 graduate of Hinton High School and was a former employee of G.C. Murphy Company in Hinton. Mary was a member of Pipestem Southern Baptist Church. She never met a stranger and enjoyed being with her family. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Biars.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond "Butch" Cox, Jr.; two daughters, Sandy Pettrey and husband Wayne of Dobson, NC and Tammy Doyle and companion Jeff Trout of Pipestem; one brother, Clarence "Buddy" Sampson of Pipestem; one sister, Ruby Thompson and husband Clayton of Pipestem; four grandchildren, Alex and Corey Doyle, Autumn Deppner and husband Edward and Austin Pettrey; two great grandchildren, Toby and Cole Pettrey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday June 11, 2022 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Roy Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery at Sandstone. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Grandsons and family members will serve as pallbearers.
