Obituary

Mary Ann (Helen) Adkins, 80 of Hinton, passed away peacefully Saturday May 30th, 2026 at her home following a long illness.

Born May 31, 1945 in Hinton, Mary was the daughter of the late Herbert "Herb" and Hazel M. Whitten Richmond.

She was a lifelong resident of Summers County and made a gracious home for her husband and children. She was also employed at WorkForce WV and REACH for several years. A lifelong Christian, Mary attended the Church of the Living God at Madams Creek and most recently Ramp Holiness Church at Ramp. She loved the outdoors, gardening, quilting and crafting. She especially loved going to livestock sales with her late husband and children. Most of all, she loved spending time with her beloved family, who will miss her immeasurably.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Zina Adkins in 2017; three brothers also predecease her, James (Dude), Daniel (Dan) and Billy R. Richmond.

Left to cherish her memory are her children; Zina "Horse" Adkins of Forest Hill, WV, Rocky Adkins & wife Heather of Ballard, WV, Cindy Farris Berry of Glen Morgan, WV and Michelle Neely and Misty Adkins, both of Hinton, WV; one brother, Richard Richmond & wife Ann of Ballard, WV; five sisters, Mamie Adkins of Hix, WV, Janice Gill of Greenville, WV, Bonnie McBride of Wayside, WV, Georgia Little & husband Kenny of Shady Spring, WV and Dorothy (Janie) Baker & husband Gerald of Bluefield, WV; five grandchildren, Tony & Tasha Farris, Jessie Neely, and Dakota & Wyatt Adkins; several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses of Hospice of Southern West Virginia for the care provided to Mary.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday June 2, 2026 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery at Upland, WV. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family members and Ray and Lee Pivont will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern West Virginia, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
