Michael Gregory Taylor, 73 of Jumping Branch, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday July 23, 2016 at his home following a long illness.

Born July 4, 1943 in Wise County, VA he was the son of June Kathleen Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was retired from the United States Navy with 22 years of service as an E8 Senior Chief. Following retirement, he worked as a math and social studies teacher at Hinton High School. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, and carpentry as well as building homes. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast and had been a resident of Summers County for 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lewis Taylor on March 17, 2006. Also preceded by two brothers, Jim Taylor and Wiley Sturgill.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Ray Taylor of Philadelphia, PA and William Taylor of Wilmington, NC along with one sister, Kitty Buckwalter of Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Pivont Funeral Home in Hinton. Following Mr. Taylor'swishes, cremation will follow the visitation.
