Obituary

Minnie Cathern Vandall, 83, of Hinton, West Virginia, left this world on March 26, 2021 and is now with her friends, family members and cherished husband, Ira Vandall, Jr. who died on March 26, 1998, the exact same day, 23 years later. Also greeting Minnie was her beloved granddaughter, Delaney Lee Wykle, who welcomed her with a warm smile and hugs. Born October 3, 1937 in Lockbridge, WV. Minnie is the daughter of the late Summers and Lou Jane Forren Gwinn. Mrs. Vandall lived her life as an example to others as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, co-worker and dear friend to many.

Living in Summers County most of her life, she and her late husband raised their four children: Alan K. Vandall of Apopka, FL, Paula A. Wykle and husband Paul, Angela S. Foster and husband Keith, both of Beckley, WV, and Greg S. Vandall and wife Shirley, of Hinton. Her dedication and endless love for her children built a never-ending bond that will comfort them forever. Welcoming each of grandchild and great- grandchild with open arms, she was happiest when they came to spend time with her. Grandchildren include Haley J. Lane, Hinton, WV, Heidi N. Vandall and A.J., of South Charleston, WV, Makayla B. Young and husband Casey, Morgantown, WV, Dylan K. Foster and Kennedy, Morgantown, WV and Bryce V. Foster of Cornelius, NC.  Great-grandchildren brought even more happiness and joy with the arrival of Logan, Olivia and Aubrey Lane and Grayson Dillard with another blessing on the way.

Minnie was the Valedictorian of her graduating class at Meadow Bridge High School in 1955 and she continued her joy of learning. At 7:30 on most evenings, Minnie enjoyed watching Jeopardy while racking up a competitive score. Her children and grandkids loved it, too, and would wait until 8:00 p.m. most evenings to call and discuss her day. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and anxiously awaited the next day's paper to check the answers. Filling her retirement days with her passions, she continued to travel with the "Golden Girls" Jean, Barbara, Mary Lou, Margie, and Catherine from the beach to New York City and many places in between.                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Mrs. Vandall worked over 40 years in many various jobs. Starting her early career at Wilson and Company and New River Lumber Company before moving on to become an assistant administrator at Hinton Hospital and then assisted in opening Bluestone Motors before working at the Summers County Sheriff's Deputy Tax Office. Before retirement, her last position was at the WV Department of Family Child Services.

For over 60 years she attended Hinton Church of Christ enjoying the ladies Bible Study group, church picnics, and revivals. She volunteered over 500 hours as a Summers County ARH Auxiliary Community Member and received the President's Award for Volunteer Service. As a member of the Friends of the Library, she enjoyed book discussions and baked sweets for fundraisers. She enjoyed sweets, believing they were a primary food group.

In addition to her parents and granddaughter, Delaney, she is preceded in death by an infant sister, Macil Faye Gwinn, Janice E. Gwinn and Winnie J. Vandall and two brothers , Paul G. and Jimmy M. Gwinn. Surviving family includes two brothers, Jesse C. and George H. Gwinn of Boca Raton, FL.
